Adventure Leader

Objective: Interns understand the organization, its business, culture, and where the Adventure Leader function fits within it.Topics: Introduction to the company's profile, structure, and products/services, along with its culture and values, giving interns the context needed to see how Adventure Leaders shape the park's most memorable moments.Activities: Department/site visits or shadowing sessions, Q&A with Guest Experience/Adventure team members, orientation quiz or reflection write-up.

Objective: Interns understand the theory and frameworks behind each part of their specific job description, with an emphasis on reading audiences and adapting in real time, not just following a script.Topics: Core hospitality and leadership theory covering audience reading and group dynamics, adaptive storytelling and interpretive tour techniques, situational awareness and basic risk anticipation, and guest engagement program design.Activities: Case study discussions on real (anonymized) tour scenarios requiring adaptation, review of sample tour scripts, mock guided tour exercise with unexpected "curveballs" (e.g. a disengaged group, a safety concern).

Objective: Apply information delivery and awareness theory to real visitor interactions.Tasks: Welcome and guide visitors, provide accurate information about attractions and schedules, and practice anticipating potential issues (confusion, safety concerns) before they escalate.Output: A log of visitor interactions during an assigned shift, including any situations anticipated or addressed proactively.

Objective: Apply adaptive interpretive theory to real guided tours.Tasks: Lead guided tours and engage visitors through storytelling, adjusting content and delivery based on real-time visitor interest and engagement.Output: A completed tour delivery log noting how content/delivery was adapted for different visitor groups, with feedback notes.

Objective: Support and evaluate engagement initiatives across different visitor segments.Tasks: Support the implementation of guest engagement programs and special events, and evaluate what resonates with different visitor groups.Output: A log of engagement activities supported, with notes on audience response and what worked best for different groups.

Objective: Independently lead a full visitor experience cycle, integrating adaptive storytelling with proactive problem-solving.Tasks: Manage visitor guidance, guided tours, and engagement activities end-to-end for an assigned scope, monitor guest feedback for recurring patterns, and present a mini case study of a visitor experience challenge and how it was handled.Output: Final presentation covering the experience cycle they led, plus a reflection analyzing feedback patterns and recommendations for continuous experience improvement, this can double as their internship report closing material.
