Life Science Education Intern

Objective: Interns understand the organization, its business, culture, and where the Life Science Education function fits within it.Topics: Introduction to the company's profile, structure, and products/services, along with its culture and values, giving interns the context needed to see how Life Science Education supports conservation awareness and visitor learning.Activities: Department/site visits or shadowing sessions, Q&A with Education team members, orientation quiz or reflection write-up.

Objective: Interns understand the theory and frameworks behind each part of their specific job description before executing it.Topics: Core education theory covering wildlife and conservation content basics, interpretation and visitor engagement principles, educational program planning fundamentals, and learning material development standards.Activities: Case study discussions, review of sample interpretive materials, mock mini-lesson delivery exercise.

Objective: Apply operational readiness standards to real education facilities.Tasks: Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and readiness of educational areas to ensure a safe and engaging visitor experience.Output: A completed facility readiness checklist for an assigned education area.

Objective: Apply interpretation and engagement theory to real visitor interactions.Tasks: Assist in delivering educational programs, providing information about wildlife and conservation to visitors under mentor guidance.Output: A log of educational sessions delivered/assisted, with visitor engagement notes.

Objective: Support the design and upkeep of educational content.Tasks: Support the planning and implementation of educational activities and interpretation programs, and assist in developing and updating interpretive signage and learning media.Output: A completed educational material or activity plan developed for an assigned program.

Objective: Independently support a full education program cycle, integrating everything learned.Tasks: Support an education program or event end-to-end (planning to delivery), assist with facility and interpretation media upkeep, and present a mini case study of the program supported.Output: Final presentation covering the education program they supported, plus a reflection on lessons learned and recommendations for continuous program improvement, this can double as their internship report closing material.
