Job Summary
The Planner Intern will support the Planning Department in project scheduling, progress monitoring, performance reporting, and schedule analysis activities. This internship provides hands-on exposure to project planning and controls within an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) environment. The intern will gain practical knowledge of project scheduling methodologies, planning software, project performance measurement, schedule risk assessment, and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling Support
• Assist in understanding project execution processes and planning methodologies.
• Support the development and maintenance of project schedules and planning documents.
• Learn and apply Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) principles in project planning activities.
• Assist in organizing and maintaining planning-related information and project records.
• Become familiar with project planning software and scheduling tools used by the department.
Schedule Development & Documentation
• Support the review and maintenance of project schedules throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist with activity coding, schedule organization, and milestone tracking.
• Help ensure planning documentation is accurate, updated, and properly maintained.
• Support schedule revisions and document control processes as required.
• Participate in schedule review meetings and planning discussions.
Progress Monitoring & Schedule Updating
• Collect and consolidate project progress information from various disciplines.
• Assist in updating project schedules based on actual progress data.
• Monitor planned versus actual progress and identify schedule variances.
• Support the tracking of key project milestones and deliverables.
• Maintain progress records and supporting documentation.
Planning Reporting & Performance Analysis
• Assist in preparing weekly and monthly planning reports.
• Support the preparation of project dashboards and performance metrics.
• Analyze schedule data and identify trends impacting project performance.
• Assist in generating management reports and presentation materials.
• Support data accuracy checks and reporting quality improvements.
Schedule Risk Assessment & Recovery Planning
• Assist in identifying schedule risks, delays, and potential project impacts.
• Support schedule analysis activities and critical path reviews.
• Participate in discussions related to schedule recovery strategies and mitigation plans.
• Assist in evaluating planning improvement opportunities and lessons learned.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Planning Department.
Project Assignment & Final Presentation
• Complete an individual project related to:
o Schedule improvement initiatives
o Progress measurement and analysis
o Planning process enhancement
o Project controls optimization
• Prepare a final report summarizing findings, analysis, recommendations, and lessons learned.
• Present project outcomes and key recommendations to the Planning Team and Department Management.
Qualifications
• Diploma 4 / Bachelor Degree in:
o Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Marine, or related disciplines)
o Project Management
o Construction Management
o Industrial Engineering
o Business Engineering
o Other relevant technical disciplines
• Familiarity with Primavera P6 is an advantage
The intern will be introduced to the Planning Department, project execution lifecycle, HSE requirements, and planning fundamentals. The intern will learn the basics of project scheduling, planning terminology, work breakdown structures (WBS), and planning tools used to monitor project performance.
The intern will learn how project schedules are structured and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. The focus will be on schedule review, activity coding, milestone identification, and maintaining planning documentation to ensure schedule accuracy.
The intern will support the collection and consolidation of project progress data from various disciplines. The intern will assist in updating project schedules, tracking actual progress against planned milestones, and identifying schedule deviations.
The intern will gain exposure to planning reports, dashboards, and project performance metrics. The focus will be on preparing schedule reports, analyzing trends, and supporting management reporting activities to facilitate project decision-making.
The intern will learn how schedule risks and delays are identified and evaluated within project environments. The intern will support planning analyses, review critical activities, and participate in discussions related to recovery plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
The intern will apply the knowledge gained throughout the internship by completing a project related to schedule improvement, progress analysis, or planning process enhancement. The internship will conclude with a final report and presentation summarizing key findings, recommendations, and lessons learned.
